Miami, Here We Come: The Relief Effort in Florida Continues
Can you remember a time when God provided for you in a time when you felt helpless? When natural disasters hit, the victims feel helpless. Many affected by the recent hurricanes lost everything and had nowhere to turn. When volunteers came to help from the local church, they did so in the name of Jesus, tangibly demonstrating the grace that God extends to each of us.
The Bible promises there will be disasters. No life this side of heaven is untouched by brokenness. As we are constantly barraged with information about tragedy after tragedy, it is tempting to become jaded, to think that Christians and non-Christians alike are becoming numb to the plight of others.
We must remember that our actions, words, and prayers can and do make a difference!
One place that this is especially true is Florida. The devastation from Hurricane Irma lingers. But IrmaRelief, an ARDF partner serving those affected by Hurricane Irma, has been faithfully working in some of the hardest hit areas. After serving in the Jacksonville area, teams of volunteers have moved south to Miami. IrmaRelief will offer a range of outreach, from home and yard repairs and a food ministry, to prayer and grief counseling. Volunteers with Irma Relief have the opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus in both word and deed as they serve.
Is God calling you to serve? Since last fall, teams have included a diverse group of volunteers, from church youth groups and college kids to retirees. Professionals, skilled and unskilled volunteers, evangelists, prayer warriors, healing teams, hospitality and food ministry teams have all served the Lord together. Many have come to know Jesus through these efforts.
With IrmaRelief, you have the opportunity to serve victims and refugees in Miami. Here, one in ten homes still has tarps on their roofs! And thousands of refugees from Hurricanes Irma and Maria are still displaced. Teams are being formed now for April and beyond.
The greatest need now is prayer, followed closely by more volunteer help. Additionally, IrmaRelief is praying for a large warehouse at an incredibly reasonable rate or free. To meet the ongoing needs, they also need your financial and in-kind support.
This Holy Week please pray for all those who serve with IrmaRelief.faith.
Lord, we ask You to bless the works of the many volunteers who have extended grace in Your name in the aftermath of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. May those who received help also receive You into their hearts.
