Not your average job

I always feel like I could do more. More exercising, more writing, more reading. Always restless and in need of doing more. This feeling especially hits me hard when I receive newsletters from our field partners who are serving in the remote areas of the world.

Food is distributed to those who starve in Malawi. Toothbrushes are handed to children in India through pop-up medical camps. Women in restrictive areas are learning to sew to tailor clothes and are earning an income for their families. Clean water units are installed in Nepal for those who don’t have access to drinking water. Scripture is being depicted in the hushed halls of an Asian library, and God is speaking the languages of those who have never heard Him before.

As our field partners engage in these cultures to improve the lives they interact with, the urge to flee my desk and catch the first flight overseas pulls at me.

Even though at times I feel planted behind a computer, I also feel incredibly honored to be the first one to read these stories that our field partners send to me to edit. I feel like these stories were written for me.

It’s a gift to be able to take a peek into their lives from where I’m sitting. In a work day, I have handed water to those who are thirsty in Turkana. I have touched the garments made by a tailor in India. I’ve tasted sweet mangosteen in the bustling streets of a Southeast Asian city.

In a given day at Global Teams, I’ve seen more than I have from the enriching stories that our field partners write than I’ve seen in my whole life. The stories they share feel especially incredible when I’m the first to read them. And that restlessness subsides.
