Emolot David Allan is finishing his last year studying Development Studies at UCU.

He has risen against all odds, the only child of 5 siblings that is going to University. His parents both suffer from HIV, and work hard to subsist in Eastern Uganda.

While he was able to scrape together the funds to begin at University, he has struggled to continue paying each semester despite his very industrious means of collecting fees (tutoring others, doing field research for NGOs, etc).

When he received the Global5K scholarship in 2016, he was so relieved and grateful. He attributes his high grades this term to the ability to focus all his time to studies, instead of working so hard to pay tuition.

A fun fact–he won the Global5K 2016 in Mukono! Apparently he made his way through secondary school on soccer scholarships. He doesn’t play on the University team because he is focused on his studies–eager to improve lives for his family, his community and for wider needs in Uganda.
